Acquisition of Hedvig
If you’re responsible for data within your organization, you’re trying to, we used to look at this almost as a three-headed scale, which is the first piece of it is, how do you protect the data, Make sure it’s available when you need it, that it’s secure. The second sort of arm to the scale is around the management of the data. Are you applying your policies against it, the regulations, all the GDPR and things that you mentioned? And then the third piece is, are you using it? Are you serving it up and getting value from it? And what Hedvig does is it brings sort of a fourth arm to this scale. It’s getting to be too many arms, but I think I can still use it for now. But a fourth arm to this scale that is, are you controlling where that data resides? So the control layer for where the storage is, where all this data is residing is incredibly important from the standpoint of now not only managing the data, but managing the storage. So we look at this and say that this is an incredible set of technology that now allows us for both storage and data management.
The Impact of the Acquisition
The recent acquisition of Hedvig by Commvault marks a significant milestone in data management. Hedvig’s expertise in software-defined storage complements Commvault’s existing capabilities, providing a comprehensive solution for managing data in complex environments.
